Valentine’s Day is most often celebrated with dinner, flowers and chocolates. Stepping outside the box in search of cupid-worthy opportunities can lead to some fun, romantic travel in places like Alpharetta, Georgia!
Alpharetta is geographically positioned between the bustling metropolis of Atlanta and the North Georgia Mountains. Guests who are arriving by air will find the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to be convenient at only 36 miles from this Atlanta suburb. Also, tons of highways and byways lead to the Southern destination, making Alpharetta easily accessible by car from surrounding states.
So, what makes Alpharetta appealing as a romantic destination? Let’s look at ways to spend a long weekend celebrating Valentine’s Day.
Culinary tourism is a hot travel topic these days so it would stand to reason that a cooking class would offer a fabulous recipe for romance. Alpharetta features three cooking schools, including the only Publix Apron’s Cooking School in Georgia (and one of five in the country). Learn basic knife skills or attend celebrity chef demonstrations. All of the cooking schools offer date night classes which would be an excellent choice for Valentine’s Day.
Do you like jazz? You are in luck if you answered yes! The Velvet Note will feature the Loston Harris Trio the weekend ahead of Valentine’s Day. If you are able to enjoy an actual Valentine’s Day show, the intimate venue will offer the sweet and sultry sounds of the Whitney James Quartet performing some of the greatest love songs of all time. The Velvet Note, designed for musicians by musicians, offers the most pure form of vocal and instrumental reception for live audiences. A Valentine’s Day (or any date night) hit for sure!
One of my favorite Alpharetta secrets – a reason that pulls me back time and time again – is Avalon – an upscale community with southern charm and hospitality as the cornerstones. There are fabulous dining options (Colletta and Oak Steakhouse are personal favorites), unique shopping venues and a wine bar! Dinner at any of their restaurants followed by a stroll through the area and a late evening visit to CRÚ Food and Wine Bar would make for a delightfully romantic Valentine’s Day…or a romantic occasion of any sort!
Admittedly not a great golfer, yet Topgolf has won me over! A premier golf entertainment complex coupled with a local hangout, Topgolf is a fun and playful way to interject some adventure into your date night. There is live music on the rooftop every Sunday from 12-4 p.m. and the food is awesome! Meet your friends at Topgolf for a great start to your evening.
