Tennessee is chocked full of exciting and romantic places, and often folks choose these quaint southern towns for honeymoons. In fact, TripAdvisor recently placed Sevierville on the “15 Best Honeymoon Destinations in the US According to TripAdvisor Reviews” list. What an honor! And, in my opinion, a list based on property reviews by travelers is about as accurate a measurement as you can hope for. Here’s why a Sevierville honeymoon makes sense.
Sevierville Honeymoon Destination
If you are curious (like I am), here’s how they figured it all out. TripAdvisor’s fancy algorithm analyzed all of the property reviews on TripAdvisor rentals and identified the highest-rated rentals associated with honeymoon places. Easy enough, right? The appeal for a Sevierville honeymoon destination was cited as cozy cabins, outdoor adventures and sweeping vistas!
Sevierville received this honor alongside other destinations like: Honolulu, Malibu, Maggie Valley, Pensacola and other distinguished locations.
Sevierville is a hotbed of adventure located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. Accommodations are plentiful and range from scenic cabins and resorts to great hotel choices. All of these reasons explain why this Tennessee town is perfect for honeymooners.
Accommodation Options for a Sevierville Honeymoon
Choosing a room for a romantic getaway or a honeymoon brings a particular place to mind – Appleview River Resort located right on the Little Pigeon River up the way from the Applewood Farmhouse Restaurant. Appleview units are rustic and spacious with tons of amenities like full kitchens, fireplaces, Jacuzzis and incredible views.
Hidden Mountain Resort offers a good selection of cozy cabins and you can even have a wedding there! Their web site sometimes has specials on it as well, so check back often.
Sevierville Attractions NOT to be Missed
There are TONS of attractions, adventures and fun times to be had in Sevierville, but a few stand out in my mind as honeymoon appropriate.
Dolly Parton bronze statue – located in downtown historic Sevierville, this statue honoring hometown country music star Dolly Parton is a popular selfie spot. Downtown is walkable and should always include a stop at Courthouse Donuts!
Robert A. Tino Gallery – a self-taught local artist who specializes in gorgeous Smoky Mountain landscapes has a studio and art gallery in Sevierville and it is so lovely. The house it is located in is on the National Register of Historic Places – the Riley Andes home – featuring the handiwork of renowned master craftsman Lewis Buckner.
Forbidden Caverns – a living cave with a fun moonshine history! Wear comfy shoes and enjoy an hour-long tour.
Tanger Outlets – no matter the reason for travel, folks always seem to love the outlets in Sevierville. Full of your favorite stores, you’re sure to find some bargains!
Thunder Road Distillery – a fun moonshine tasting room with locally crafted spirits in exciting flavors like Watermelon Falls, Banana Shine and many more! The Robert Mitchum moonshine movie – Thunder Road – is the inspiration for the facility’s theme and you’ll love it!
Of course there are many more things to do in Sevierville like hiking, horseback riding, shopping, and unique attractions. You’ll quickly have a list overflowing with spectacular ideas for your Sevierville honeymoon destination trip.
John and Ashley Martell were married in October of 2008 and headed to Sevierville to enjoy a cute little cabin at Legacy Mountain Resort. They actually didn’t plan on Sevierville at first, but stumbled across the cabin while searching for where to go on their honeymoon. Legacy Mountain Resort offers many amenities, but Ashley says the two-person Jacuzzi tub in their cabin was her favorite as it was a nice touch for a honeymoon.
“The highlight of the trip for me was the day we drove all the way to North Carolina. The drive was gorgeous with all the fall foliage, and we stopped to take pictures numerous times,” says Ashley. “For a lover of the autumn season and fall foliage, it was the perfect place to honeymoon for me, and I would definitely choose it again.”
The Smoky Mountains trip was a first for both John and Ashley. They enjoyed local food including Apple Barn fried pies, wine and cider, as well as eateries in neighboring Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. They quickly discovered there is much to do within the three cities. The Martells currently reside in the Birmingham, AL area.
